Jordan Whittaker flying

Jordan Whittaker

Jordan Whittaker was hand picked by Dean to train as an instructor at Active Edge. After seeing Jordan's commitment to the sport, his natural talent, his rate of progression and his ability to teach the sport, it was a no brainer. There was no one else Dean would rather be teaching at Active Edge.

Jordan has a first class Master's Degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Leeds. He specialised in aerodynamics and worked in industry for a handful of years before being tempted into teaching paragliding full time. His theory knowledge is very strong and he is talented at breaking down complicated topics to become understandable, very useful for your paragliding exams.

After learning to fly, he quickly made a name for himself by flying some incredible distances cross country within his first year of flying, including a 210km declared flight from the Malvern Hills to Bury St Edmunds on his B wing at the time. He is passionate to show people what you can do if you put your time and efforts into the sport. The rewards are endless, and the feelings are like no other.

Just as amazing as winning awards and flying huge distances in free flight is, to be able to offer the world of flying to people for the first time and to see their joy and developing passion for the sport is what brought Jordan to instructing.

Both Jordan and Dean ensure the very highest quality of instruction for new pilots on their journey.

Dean Crosby

Dean Crosby is Active Edge's Chief Flying Instructor, and he is without doubt one of the most experienced instructors in the UK. He's taught at every level from day 1 beginner to British team squad member.

Dean has been flying for 40 years; during this time, he's captained both the British Hang Gliding and British Paragliding Teams. He was British Paragliding Champion and British Paragliding Cross Country Champion in 1993.

Today when many instructors rarely fly, Dean is still fanatical about cross-country flying and was crowned British Paragliding Cross Country Champion for the 2nd time in 2006.

He's served on the prestigious BHPA Flying and Safety committee, responsible for Pilot Training.

He's the only pilot to compete at the national level in all three soaring disciplines.

Dean has taught hundreds of people to fly, from 70+-year-old recreational pilots to the 2005 British Hang Gliding Champion.

Many of his ex-students have competed in the British Paragliding Nationals, with many representing Great Britain.

He's passionate about the sport that has shaped his life and is honoured to introduce free-flying to new pilots. He'll ensure you get the most out of your latest adventure sport.
